New healthy trends are forever coming and going. There seems to always be a new way of doing things. It’s like people swore off conventional wisdom altogether. Conventional wisdom doesn’t pan out when there are better ways to do things, but we shouldn’t ditch the old ways just for the sake of being trendy. Besides, if these new ways are so much better, it doesn’t make sense that we’d stop doing them in a week. Getting back to these basics will keep you in tip-top shape.
Water is life. We need water for virtually every bodily function. A lack of water can shrink the brain causing brain fog. A lack of water can also increase allergies, bladder and kidney infections, acne, arthritis and several other conditions. People hear that they need 64 ounces of water a day. This is great if you weigh 128 pounds, but if you weigh more than that, you need to up your water intake. Drink half of your body weight in ounces a day for adequate hydration.
Movement is important. Without exercise, people can expect to have increased cholesterol, hypertension, heart issues, weight gain, stress, depression and other issues. Get a minimum of thirty minutes of movement a day. Throw in some strength-training to increase lean muscle mass. Yoga is good for increasing energy, being calm and improving range of motion.
With instant fixes at the dentist and teeth whitening strips, oral health has gone downhill. Professionals, like those at the NYC Center for Dental Implants, know that neglected teeth and gums can lead to heart disease, respiratory disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and other health issues. People need to brush their teeth at least twice a day, but they also need to use mouthwash, floss, drink water instead of sugary drinks and try chewing gum after eating if they can’t brush their teeth after meals.
Our lives can get hectic, but keeping things simple leads a life of more enjoyment and less stress. Write up a list of what and who’s important. Create some goals. Each day, make a “to do” list that encompasses the goals that are important to you. Life will be more productive, less stressed, and more meaningful.
There are a lot of diet fads and while some have a bit of wisdom, trying too much too soon causes people to quit their healthier eating habits. Stick with tried and true methods of eating: small portions, lean protein, vegetables, fruit, whole grains, dairy and legumes. Eat three meals and two snacks a day. When people set out to eat in this way, they discover a healthier body.
There’s no point in reinventing the wheel when it works just fine. Stick to the basics. Improve them if necessary, but don’t get in such confusion to always do something new that you forget to take care of you.
